* As has been suggested, perhaps most of us want to be out on the water *

A friend of mine and I are contemplating a trip with his wife and child next
summer on his 27' C&C from Sodus Bay (East of Rochester) on Lake Ontario to
Oswego, thru the Oswego Canal and the N.Y.S. Barge Canal (with stepped mast)
down the Hudson River by sail and/or motor to N.Y.C., east off the south
shore of Long Island, then to Martha's Vineyard, and then Cape Cod. We
plan to return through the Long Island Sound and then back up the Hudson, etc
While we both are reasonably good sailors, (we both are members of the
US Power Squadron and are keenly interested in sailing) neither of us have any
experience with either a) traversing locks or b) "tidal water" sailing.
Any information, suggestions, etc. that you feel could be of value to us
would be appreciated. We would also like to know about availability of
overnight dockage/moorings and costs, and would Yacht Clubs in this area
recognize reciprocity for membership in a Yacht Club as far away as Sodus
Bay. On Lake Ontario, just about every Yacht Club reciprocates with free dock-
age or mooring for members of other Yacht Clubs situated on the Lake. Many
also recognize reciprocity for any Yacht Club membership.
In addition, are there any "unofficial" publications of charts similar
to Richardson's Cruising Guide to Lake Ontario and which is available for
the other Great Lakes. Unless your information is of a general nature, please
send mail.
My apologies to anyone who read this item and found it of little or
no interest. Thanks in advance to all of you who mail me useful ideas,
hints, suggestions, etc. for our trip. We both have had considerable
exposure to sailing a large portion of Lake Ontario and the Thousand Islands
and I would be glad to share information with anyone who would like it.

as ever,
