[net.rec.boat] Fibreglass Hulls - Any Colored

jrc@ritcv.UUCP (James R Carbin) (11/03/83)

Has anyone out there in netland had any experiences with "colored" (i.e.
non-white) fibreglass hulls. A very good friend of mine is considering the
purchase of a new sailboat with a non-white hull, but is concerned about
possible problems such as a) surface scratches, and b) matching the gelcoat
color in the event hull repairs caused by impact or gelcoat bubbles might be
necessary.

In part, this question is generated by the experiences of another mutual
friend who has a fibreglass boat with a colored hull, and has experienced
some problems. We wonder if his experiences are unusual or fairly common.
Unless your information is of general interest, mail would probably be the
best vehicle for responding. If there are enough responses, I will post a
summary to the net. It really doesn't matter if your boat is a "rag-bagger"
or a "stink-potter" as I doubt that the method of propulsion would have any
bearing on fibreglass gelcoat color.

as ever,
