People are talking about jib roller furling as if it were roller reefing. The roller mechanisms on jibs are there to make the sail easy to store. If you try to use it to reef your jib, you will ruin the boat's performance and probably ruin the jib. I think Hood now has a setup that claims to be real roller reefing. I think I saw an ad in Yacht Racing/Cruising.

I have the Hood roller furling/reefing system; which comes with a built-in twin headfoil. It seems to be a fine furler, but the only thing I can say for the looks (and performance) of the reefed-down headsail (here a North 135%) is that it's quick and convenient for short-handed cruising. sam houston
