My father is putting his Irwin 30 up for sale. The boat (built
in 1977) is a 30 foot keel (mast head) sloop. The boat sleeps 5
comfortably. The cabin has 6'2" headroom, 3 burner alcohol
stove, ice cooler, sink, chart table, a dining table that folds
up against the wall, and 4 separate berthing areas. The bathroom
has a head (w/holding tank) and a sink. The boat has a universal
atomic 4 (4 cylinder) gas engine.
Sail inventory includes 180% spinnaker, 160% quilt-cut genoa,
150% genoa, 130% genoa, 100% storm jib, and main sail (2 sets of
jiffy reefing points).
The boat also has a martec eliptical shaped folding prop,
shaefer traveler, and a head foil II (allows one genoa to be
raised before dropping the other). My father ordered the boat
with the racing package which included a winch to raise the
spinnaker, 2 set of lewmar winches in the cockpit area, and
inboard tracks. The boat also includes some nice electronics
which include digital depth finder, wind speed, wind direction,
running amplifier, beating ampilifier, knot meter in knots, and
1/10 knots gauges. The boat is designed to limit traffic on the
foredeck for more efficient sailing. This includes having the
jib and main halards led back to winches reachable from the
front of the cockpit.
The boat is very stable (relatively wide beam, and heavy keel)
but still quite fast. I believe that it currently rates 174
(PHRF handicap). We have found the boat very comfortable for
both racing and cruising. Racing record includes 3 fleet
championships at Henderson Harbor yacht club.
The Irwin has been on the west end of lake Ontario since it's
purchase and been well maintained (including fresh anti-fouling
paint each year).
