[net.rec.boat] Questions: about chartering sailboats

bjorn@dataio.UUCP (Bjorn Benson) (10/02/84)

I am interested in chartering a sailboat this next summer for a week or
two to cruise around the San Juan Islands (a Washington State Attraction).
I have some sailing experience but nothing really in a medium-and-up sized
boat. Thus, I am thinking of attending a sailing school that also charters
boats, and then I can get "certified" and sail off into the sunset.
But, enough of that. My questions are:

1. What size (and what types) of boat would you recomend for a 4 person cruise,
and for a 8 person cruise? (I don't have definite plans yet.)

2. What sort of questions do these charter companies ask you about your
sailing experience and your credit rating?

3. How much above the charter rate should I expect to pay (food, moorage fees,
   drink, etc.)?

4. Would be better to charter bare boat or skippered, or maybe a bit of each?

I really appreciate any responses, both mail and news
because I would like the information and this news
group needs a little livening up.
