[net.rec.boat] recomendations sought

dikiw@mmintl.UUCP (Diki Wozniak) (03/21/85)

Any long distance sailors out there, what are some of the longer
voyages you have undertaken, and in what type of craft.

What is the opinion of netters on the minimum size boat for the
occasional long haul (Long Island to Bermuda). As opposed to
the long long haul (S.F. to Tahiti). What qualities would you look
for in a daysailer to be used once in a while for a real trip?

	Also recomendations on Sextants. Thanks.

My favorite sextant is the full size Freiberger, they are very well made
aluminum sextants and the cost is very reasonable (around $400 plus $30
if you want a semi-silvered mirror). I should probally point out that I
really wanted a Cassens & Plath but couldn't bring myself to shell out
close to $700 for one. (I tried, I REALLY tried.) So it would be good
to hear from some folks with experiance with plastic sextants.

If anyone is interested I can suggest some places to shop for reasonably
priced sextants.
