I don't think building the mast is the most difficult part of building a sailboat. Refer to Pardey, "The Self-Sufficient Sailor"--he gives complete directions for building box-section spars which are apparently quite sturdy and long-lived, also they are actually very simple to build. As for the bit about the boat being towed by a kite, what happens when you have to get the kite down, on board, and stowed in a gale? How do you go to windward? What have you been smoking?
