The Federal Government does not just build interstate highways, it supplies a great deal of money that the states use to build and repair all sorts of roadways including those in the interstate system. Sure it would be nice if we could give the Fed. Govt. money and have them build us some roads with no strings attached. Unfortunately, the Fed. Govt. has seen fit to demand that certain laws be passed at the state level before a state can receive the money. This gives the Fed. Govt. an easy way to circumvent the restrictions placed on it as to what laws it can pass. The Fed. Govt. is given the money so that it can be equitibly distributed. But it is no longer doing that, so we should all tell our representatives that we want these taxes reduced, not increased. This is the only way to reduce the stranglehold on the states. The Fed. Govt. has been setting a really bad precedent with this and it must be stopped before it gets much further out of hand. Robert Snyder floyd!rjs
