I seem to be turning into an apologist for the British monarchy here. In an event, while starving the animals is reprehensible behaviour, are we sure that this was the visiting royalty's idea? It seems more likely that this scheme was thought up by some sleazebag of an American protocol officer (or maybe it was the zookeeper's idea). Indeed, maybe this is standard procedure for visiting dignitaries at zoos and we only heard about it this time because it is very democratic to point out the cruelties inflicted by royalty.
