[net.politics] Solutions to Teen Pregnancies

I may have to run from all the flaming responses, but I agree with
Larry Cipriani. Taking 'the financially painless' away from people
is the quickest way to change their behavior. I guess this discus-
sion will just boil down to Conservatives versus Liberals.

Ducking flames already,

One partial solution to the problem of teenage pregnancy, would be to
announce that in nine months there will no longer be any 'Aid to
Families with Dependent Children. ... this would
place the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of whom it belongs.
The *father and mother* should equally share the responsibilities of course.
----------
Of course! Just how many teenage fathers do you think would share the
responsibility? How many teenage mothers would want anything to do
with the guy anymore, even if he was willing to help? What about the
fresh-out-of-high-school housewife who marries, has several kids, and
has her sole means of support killed in a construction accident?
What about the woman who can't get an abortion on Medicaid, can't
afford to pay for one herself, and certainly can't afford to raise
the child? I guess this is the sort of thing that happens when "macho
men" "discuss" women's problems. (Yes, I know this is "society's
problem," but many points concern issues of particular interest to
women.)
