Seems I have been getting a lot of heat about my statement that the federal tax cut of 25% cost me about $200/year. If everyone remembers correctly, most of Reagan's policies favor giving social programs over to the states. Sort of you worry about the people, we want to blow the world up to erase the communist menace (but that is another story). So good old double R's (my personal nickname for our Commander in Chief) cut aid to education (probably responsible for the raise in property and state tax). Therefor the state of Illinois had to borrow from the highway fund to keep the state afloat. Next in the chain of events was the state of Illinois realizing they could not repay the road fund. Ahah, a raise in the state gas tax. Meanwhile, the Fed's were realizing the Interstates are falling apart. Raise the gas tax again. Figuring this out, I go $200 in the hole. Of course Big Jim Thompson gets his share of the blame. Before the election, He was saying Illinios was fiscally sound. After he won things not as great as he said. Of course, any politician would say things are great before an election. I have a solution to that problem. Allow a person to have only one term in any given office. One term as a rep, Senator or Pres. That will keep them from worrying about the next election and maybe they will get some work done. Any reaction? Dave (I still won't vote for Reagan) Vollman
