Martin Taylor claims that the importance of living is greater than the importance of liberty. He quotes "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" as though it were a rank ordering. This leads to two criticisms from my view: 1) Is he willing to give up all his liberties merely in order to live? This is not living, it's sheer survival. 2) If the founders of America beleived as you say they did, to whom shall we attribute the slogans: "Give me liberty, or give me death" and "Live free or die"? --Alan Wexelblat decvax!ittvax!wex

If you are alive you can always hope for freedom and work to bring it about, if not for yourself, then for your descendants. A dead person has no freedom what so ever. Anyone who espouses "live free or die" must be insane.
