At the time of my posting this news to the net, Secretary of State Schultz had confirmed that the KAL airliner had been shot down by the Soviet Union. His description of the event (that the Soviets had monitored the plane for about two hours BEFORE firing) leads me to believe it was no acident. I don't know what the US response will be, but I'm fortunate enough to be in an office with men who feel they have the only solution to any world conflict... "NUKE THE #$%$**## OUT OF THEM!!!!" The gist of the conversation I've been hearing so far reminds me of the movie "Dr. Strangelove", and Gen. Buck Turgidson's ravings, to wit "This is the chance we've been waiting for.." While I don't honestly believe (read HOPE) that this will lead to immediate world annihilation, I think about US troops being fired on ("What did you say Hasid, we are shooting at Americans???") in Lebanon and now this crap... Does anybody think this was an accident??? What can we hope for in the way of justice??? An official Soviet apology?? ***************************************************************************** An interesting item...while typing this the wife of Senator McDonald was said to have remarked that this was the type of thing her husband was always talking about (read Communist Menace) and that his being on the plane was a possible reason for it's being shot down. Heavy Stuff in a time of grief!!! D. Young
