I would just like to throw out some thoughts about the foreign policies of the two super powers. First -- the domestic policies of the two governments, much argued as they are as a basis of conflict, bear little relation to their foriegn policies. Any discussion of the 'morality' of the two forms of governments does not really belong in a debate on the two countries' foriegn policies, except as background information. We too often justify actions we take on such a basis, while we condemn similar actions on Russia's part. Stepping outside our position as US citizens, and taking an objective look at the last thirty years of international affairs, what we see is a chess game with the US and RUSSIA as players (I refer mostly to affairs with so-called Third-World nations). Take a look at the actions of both governments without letting the 'official' explanations for these actions muddle your view. In my opinion, you will find that both sides look like the bad guys. In fact, both sides are the bad guys. I won't go into specific situations and events -- I just want to spark some thinking on this subject. David Knill (I hope I don't lose my clearance)
