[net.politics] Blame the Damn Russians!

berman@ihuxm.UUCP (08/30/83)

In reply to Dave Holt, to indict a society on the grounds that
factory workers are among the best paid, that formal studies
and practical labor are combined and that luxury goods are
scare seems pretty weak. Surely he can do better.

Holt blames all (yes all!) the troubles of the world on the Russians.
He says the Ruskies are to blame for Nicaragua's Revolution against Somoza,
Chad's civil war,
Angola's Revolution against Portugal (and continuing fight
with South Africa), and El Salvador's civil war
....blaming it all on the Ruskies!!!......well that
kind of simplistic analysis should be dismissed off hand.
Santa Claus doesn't exist and the
world is a little more complex.
(Although, grant you, certain persons in high office
these days can't seem to grasp that fact.)

In reply to Andy Berman's reply to my original article:

I DID NOT SAY ALL OF THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS ARE DUE TO THE
	USSR!!!!!

I won't even say that most of them are. A good number of the
problems are due to the actions of the US government and US corporations.
What I didn't get across in the article is that in the US we have the
potential for not causing these kind of problems. If the US populace
makes enough noise about an issue, then it is a good bet that the people
in Washington and the people on Wall Street will listen and modify their
behavior. In the USSR, there is no criticism of the government allowed.
If you do criticise it, you are persecuted. In fact, you can be persecuted
there by the government just for being of a particular ethnic origin.
Many problems in the world are due to factors outside of the influence
of either the US or the USSR.
What I did say was that the USSR is a "bad guy". I stick by that
statement. Do "nice guys" shoot down civilian aircraft?????

Come on Andy Berman, be a little more reasonable in your critiques next
time. And what's wrong with believing in Santa Claus anyway? I thought
that all you bleeding heart liberals just believed Uncle Sam to be
Santa Claus.

Is Israel a "nice guy" or a "bad guy"? Or is this a question not to
be asked in polite company?
