There is a military plane which is a converted 747 -- it's called the E-4. Some smaller countries actually have Air Forces whose major components are 747's (I'd have to look up which ones -- my brother is the expert). However, there is no reasonable way in which the Soviets could have confused the planes. As far as I know, the U.S. does not use 747's in that region (too expensive and inefficient, I would suppose), and the Soviets watch the U.S. closely enough to know that. -- Matt Orel decvax!yale-comix!orel
