In some important senses, the TV Media is not at all liberal. I think you will find that many of the actors and writers are very liberal, but not the actual broadcasting companies and certainly not their sponsors! For instance, consider the black balling of Ed Asner for his union activities and anti-Reagan stance. The place were it becomes sinister is TV news (or "newsak" as I call it). They pick at the administration and act like adversaries, but when it comes down to it, they always toe the line. PBS has been practically wiped out, and many of its most interesting controversial programs (like "World") have been taken off the air. One of the last "World" programs I saw proved that an American arms company was selling canons to South Africa via Canada. Several friends of mine from Europe have told me that they feel like they are entering an information vacuum when they come to the USA. It is nowhere near as bad as the Soviet Union, but you definitely have to work to be informed (e.g. read NY Times or Guardian Weekly).
