I agree that it is wrong to jump to conclusions about all military actions
taken by the U.S., but don't let Reagan off the hook so easily. This is the
first military decision made during his term that has made any sense. What
about El Salvidore, Nicaragua and Lebanon???

Even though it was a smart move, don't kid yourselves as to the reasons
behind the act. Basically, Reagan has a bad record internationally. And
with the recent bombing in Beruit, he had to divert the world's (especially
here at home) attention. Maybe a good thing for the wrong reasons...who
knows???

Also, I am a die-hard liberal, but that doesn't mean that I want to ignore
the rest of the world's actions. There is a danger in leaving ourselves vul-
nerable, and I don't think that is very smart. There's nothing wrong with
trying to avoid unnecessary confrontations, but don't be extreemists. And
that's no reason to jump into every hostil situation in the world either!
Think first!!!

There continues to be one (only one?) bit of mis-information
floating around. The invasion of Grenada was committed to before the
bombing in Beirut. The White House has stated that the decision was
made on Saturday, a day before the bombing. Now, you might argue
that it was in retaliation for the nut case that tried to break into
the golf course, but not the bombing. All in all, it was a very busy
weekend for the President.
