[net.politics] What We Lost in Grenada

berman@ihuxm.UUCP (11/02/83)

>From a New York Times Editorial on the US invasion of Grenada:

"The cost is the loss of the moral high ground:

a reverberating demonstration to the world that

America had no more respect for laws and borders,

for the codes of civilization, than the Soviet Union."

You didn't really expect the New York Times to say anything positive about
the President's actions, did you? From what I've read, the NYT seems to be
a mouth organ for the liberal left (at least in their editorials). I
suspect that an objective viewpoint (e.g. the Christian Science
Monitor) would be more enlightening.

I have found both the New York Times and the Christian Science Monitor to
be the best sources for international news. Neither can be claimed as
mouthpieces for the "liberal left". Subscriptions to the CSM are $48 per
year for students, $90 for ye workers.

P.S. CSM stories are really scaring me about the fate of Nicaragua. Repeat
of our tactics against Chile; US stopping spare parts shipments, stopping
international loans, Exxon stopping fuel shipments, the CIA and DIA, ad
infinitum.
