[net.politics] British-American letter comments

pector@ihuxw.UUCP (Scott W. Pector) (11/11/83)

I've noticed that since McGhee sent that article that most of the
letters in response to it have been rather useless; that is, they
say or imply "Is this guy for real?". Few actually try to find (and
support with documentation) any discrepancies. There's nothing wrong
with being cynical, but you should justify your reactions to some
extent. I found McGhee's comments quite interesting. To shrug them
off with comments to the effect saying: if this guy is going to
spout venom, why doesn't he blame the British for more things that
they would never do; or this article needs no reply, its stupidity
is evident; or ...., to shrug them off in this manner is truly rude
and shows the utmost disregard in that the maker(s) of such comments
show that they refuse to consider any opinion that disagrees with their
own. If you guys are so smart and right, how come you ain't rich? Or
are you going to be on the tribunals during the Day of Judgment?

P.S. Thanks should go to those that have dealt with McGhee's comments
in a constructive manner by presenting evidence supporting his
statements or to the contrary. That's the point of debate: to
be better informed to make better decisions!
