... Of course, these were not
strictly invasions. Democracy is more easily crushed by the sneak
attack from within.

...

Mr. Turner has a point here. Most of these democracies were crushed
by revolution from within, with outside encouragement. Seems to me
that all sorts of revolutionaries (Moral Majorityites, "leftists",
what have you) should consider their favorite information sources, and
then consider Mr. Turner's comment. <Which is undoubtedly truth.>

Given the comments we've seen on the net, "Up the revolution",
"If you read 'The Militant'", "All you bleeding hearts should
go to another country", etc, one might get the impression that
democracy is being beseiged right here. Some of the forces come
from within, and some (well meaning, just like the people
who did in Allende, who had been mislead by whomever, the
US wasn't the ONLY one involved, folks) from outside.

Frankly, I'm suspicious of anyone who can tell me all the "problems",
but who can't suggest how to make things better, except by tearing
everything down. <No, I don't assume that "anything" will be better,
folks.>

Finally, although I used Mr. Turner's quote to make my point, I don't
particularly have an argument with him. We clearly disagree on
some points, but it seems we each disagree with the other's opinion,
not the other's existance. My comments are directed to other people
on the net, those who seem (to me) to be less informed, and
less comfortable with opposing opinions. And.. I tried to
return your mail, Michael, and I got bounced. Also, VELU--
I never got your attempt to reopen the mail path.

Have a nice day, D.
