[net.politics] What is political?-- The Day After, etc

blakrose@watarts.UUCP (11/25/83)

I am sick and tired of the stupid arguing going on over ABC and the Day
After.
People are hassling each other and the network and Bill Buckley over
whether the movie is "political" or not. Their definitions of political
seem to fall under the criterion -- which is about as wide as Twiggy's
ass -- of which side of the liberal/conservative spectrum it falls under.

Folks, the movie is political. It discusses a matter which
involves powers struggles.
That's political, by definition. I you are tring to decide which slant
it seems to be taking, that's another matter. Just because it is or
isn't partisan is no basis for injecting the question of politicality
into the debate.

Hell, nearly everyone here who has chosen to work with computers
has made a political decision, because of the concepts
of economic security, access to information, etc. And those like me
who didn't consciously choose to enter the field have also made a political
decision, or had it made for them.

Is this lecture really necessary, or am I deluding myself about the
shameful level of education in the countries involved?
