Heard last night that the President is proposing a 20 year/100 Billion dollar effort to build a space station. Anyone else hear about the proposal? As for High Frontier, I must be refering to the O'Niel(sp?) plan, as I too do not want to involve outter space in the arms race. Before every doom and gloomer comes back with the old saws about how you gonna keep the military out, let me point out that even the discovery of a new type of toilet paper has military significance. Sure some inventions or discoveries may have military uses, we can't get away from it as the military, other than weapons of destruction, has the same basic needs as the rest of the population. Anything that is developed for for use by the civilian population would also be useful to the military population. I welcome the Presidents proposal as it will serve not only to advance technology, but to provide that first step into the future. Now, if the scientific community is going to groan and moan over their pet projects not being funded, foo on them. This is my pet project and I'm going to root for it all the way. My mind is made up and all of your arguments are going to fall on deaf ears. Oh, by the way, I am standing up. I just don't like to go into great statistical and moralistic details to answer the objectors to my proposals. Besides, you haven't changed my mind and I doubt if my arguments can change your mind, so why type my fingers to the bone trying. So, I'll just give my opinions, then you refute them, if you like, I will read your comments, you can read mine, then we can all go on to another subject instead of beating the original one to death.
