[net.politics] What some people won't do....

This November, there was a "Nuclear Free Zone" referendum on the Cambridge
(MA) ballot. The ordinance would have prohibited any company participating
in the process of developing, building, testing, or deploying of nuclear
weapons from operating in the city of Cambridge.
Whatever side you come down on on this issue you will probably find the
following statistic pretty appalling.

The group which was fighting the ordinance (calling themselves CARB,
Citizens Against Research Bans, a truly stupid name, given that they
were primarily a front organization for the companies fighting the
ordinance) spent a total of over $500,000 to fight the ordinance.
There are about 100,000 people living in Cambridge of whom 55,000
are registered voters and 30,000 actually voted in this election.
This comes out to almost $20 per vote cast.
