The following article appeared in a recent issue of the Manchester
Guardian:
"A US survey measuring academic achievement of 11-year-old pupils in
Dallas against seven other cities around the world indicated that
American students are among the worst students of mathematics in the
industrial world and fared little better in science and geography.
In maths, the Japanese were the clear leaders with an average score of
50.2 per cent, followed by Sweden, 39.7, Australia, 37.9, England,
37.8, Canada, 35.8, France, 33.3, Switzerland, 31 and the US 25.3."
This looks like pretty bad news for our future.
