I heard on the radio this morning that Lt. Goodman, the pilot freed by
the Syrians, was about to visit his home town for the first time since
his release and was going to receive a hero's welcome. It's interesting
what the US is using for heroes these days. First it was the Vietnam
POWs who were honored, or at least the first few planeloads (the Vietnam
veterans who didn't get captured received no welcome at all), then the
Iranian hostages and now a pilot who got shot down, parachuted into
"enemy" territory and got captured. I wonder what the pilots who have
been flying similar missions without getting shot down think about all
     this.
