#N:uokvax:5000072:000:795 uokvax!emjej Feb 5 13:52:00 1984 Turning from hunger to a possibly less important topic: Some time ago (back in high school) I recall reading that Canadian broadcast facilities were restricted from playing American records (whatever that means--do Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Guess Who, Ann Murray, etc. count?) save during some ridiculous hours of the night. I also recall reading in an issue of the late *Electronics Illustrated* reports of Canadian jamming of American TV stations near the border. Is this, as SCTV might call it, "a Canadian fact?" (Perhaps it's no longer in effect--I've heard Radio Canada International's 1800 GMT broadcasts to Africa playing non-Canadian records recently.) Information from Canadian net-users would be greatly appreciated. James Jones ...!ctvax!uokvax!emjej

When I was in Toronto last (admittedly some years ago), the TV reception included the Buffalo stations. John Hobson AT&T Bell Labs Naperville, IL (312) 979-0193 ihnp4!ihuxq!amigo2

As far as I can remember, I've always been able to listen to American Radio (provided I had the right equipment) or American TV without any problems. American TV stations are listed in our TV guides along with the Canadian ones. Canadian authorities have been concerned about getting enough "canadian content" in their radio and TV program, but I am not too aware of how stringent the legislations on this are, if there are any.
