This flame is primarily intended for rabbit!jj, Scott Renner and Philip Polli (Praise the Lord...) But just to show that I can be egocentric, obnoxious, arrogant, etc, I am posting it for all to see... 5 4 3 (We have ignition...) 2 1 ********** FLAME ON ********** Dear (Gentle?)men, The first few articles about hunger in LDCs (Lesser Developed Countries) did provide some information and managed to provoke thought on my part (and I hope also in the minds of others on the net). However, your continued bickering back and forth, rehash- ing the same old points, name calling and finger pointing, violates the rules of ettiquette established for USENET, and de- tracts from your original ideas, leaving one wondering as to the purpose for your posting of these articles. Not that there is something inherently wrong with pointless bickering, children tend to engage in it quite often. However, if you feel compelled to practice this verbal intercourse (perhaps verbal masturbation is more appropriate here), please do it via electronic mail and save the rest of us the trouble of wading through your ejaculatory prose. I agree that rabbit!jj (what is his/her/its real name?), Scott Renner and Phil Polli did go in for excessive name calling and sarcasm. I used to be aquainted with Phil, and he can be a quite abrasive person. I think that this discussion quickly generated more heat than light, and it would have been better had they managed to desist. Hunger in the world IS a serious topic, and people are serving it ill when theydon't treat it seriously. If you want to flame in a ridiculous way, flame about wombats. I agree with Greg Muth that the subject of World Hunger has gotten just a bit out of hand. Instead of arguing about it folks, why don't you all do something useful and try to lend a helping hand to some of the starving people of the world. It doesn't take much money to sponsor a child from one of those countries on a monthly basis. It most certainly will not "Save the World", but I am convinced that it does help. I have been sponsoring a child now for two years and I get hand written letters from her telling me how much better she is doing now versus two years ago and how grateful she is. It is really a humbling experience to read these letters and know that I am just giving a minute percentage of my income each month so that a child can eat nourishing food and wear better clothes and attend classes so that she can learn to read and write. And here everyone is arguing about the situation when you can all be doing something about it instead. How many times have you heard people complaining about a situation in the world that they do not like and yet they do nothing to change that situation? I think that is pretty hypocritical. Oh well, this has just been a suggestion as to how we all might help our fellow man a little. Take it or leave it. Marie Carey Center for Seismic Studies Arlington, Virginia
