just read an article written by a libertarian that claimed that the draft was equivalent to enslavement by the government. since the 14th(right number??) amendment outlaws slavery, is it a valid defense for those who refuse to register for the draft? has the draft itself ever been challenged on this basis? would there be support for an amendment that would specifically authorize the draft in time of national emergency? (i know, who gets to decide what is an "emergency?" suppose we solve that problem to everyone's satisfaction. then what?) any constitutional scholars out there want to take this up? akt at ...decvax!mcnc!akt
