[net.politics] Why should I pay my taxes?

decot@cwruecmp.UUCP (Dave Decot) (02/25/84)

I like to be able to drive on roads, and I don't have time to
build a road to everywhere I want to go. I don't have time to learn
everything about pharmaceuticals and biochemistry, and I would rather
that someone who knows more than I about those fields give me suggestions
about foods and drugs that are available. I like to have some course
of action available to me when my property or my body has been damaged by
someone, and I would rather not immediately kill anyone who happens to do so,
because s/he may have a reason that I don't know and can't find out about
in the heat of the moment. I do not constantly use everything I have,
but my excess can be used by others. I can't always find these others,
but I would like to help them out, because they might be able to help me
some day, and I would like the same consideration from them.

One of the purposes of organizations is that they allow people to specialize
in a particular area, without having to worry about EVERYTHING as much.

Also, as I'm sure anybody who knows much about computers can tell you,
pooling resources results in increased productivity and utilization of
the resources.

Being a citizen of the United States means you enjoy certain benefits.
Taxes are our part of the deal we have with our government.

When I pay taxes, I don't feel that my money is being stolen, because I
have a voice in the organization. I can make my opinions known to
my representatives, so that my money is used more to my liking.

I don't particularly care for the way 30% of my tax money is being spent,
but I don't refuse to pay if I can conveniently do so, because I would be
freeloading if I did.
didn't.
