[net.politics] Slurred Speech

brown@rochester.UUCP (Chris Brown) (02/27/84)

Let this cup pass from me, Lord. Don't you love election years?
Nine jaw-dislocating, soul-killing, oyster-boring months left
of such PEOPLE-style gossip as who said "Heinie" to whom in
private. What about the deficit and the "Peacekeeper"?
I thought Heinie was a mildly derogatory word for German? Since
when does Anti-Semitic mean Anti-Jewish? And so on...don't get me
started.
Bored to tears in Rochester

"Heini" is a slightly derogatory term for Germans. While it has no bad meaning
that I can think of, it does sound slightly infantile (I am German-born, and
none of the American derogatory terms, such as "Kraut" (herb) or "Hun" (hardly
a relation) ever made much sense to me. It is probably equivalent to calling an
American "Joey" or "Charley".

Apparently, "Hymie" is a slightly derogatory term for Jews. I asked a Jewish
friend here (admittedly far from a fanatic) about its severity and he laughed.

PS: When is the next Gilbert & Sullivan performance?

I had a dream...

Jesse Jackson was apologizing for his overreported bad manners in a synagogue,
and asked:
"But seriously, folks, how many of you DON'T think of me as a Schvatze?"
