I've returned from the continuing protests at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant near San Luis Obispo, California. I blocked a road for a short while with 4 friends. We were arrested and spent 4 days in jail. I've been home since 2/16, but wanted some time to think about my experience before posting. As chance would have it, tonight I saw a movie titled "Seeing Red", about the American Communist Party from the 30's to the present. I highly recommend this film - but you will be very lucky to ever see it - only a handful of alternative movie houses will touch it. Oh yeah, I am not now, nor have I ever been... My fears of going to jail were 10 times worse than the reality. I would go to jail again, though I am not anxious to in the near future. I feel that what I did was right, that it had some effect, and I will encourage others to do what they can to prevent Diablo from going on-line - non-violently, of course. I will continue to do what I can to stop the plant, and might return for civil disobedience in a few months. Consensus decision making works! "Affinity group" autonomy leads to wonderful actions. An affinity group is any group of 5 to 20 people working together in an action such as this one. Previous actions at Diablo had somewhat rigid, pre-planned scenarios for groups to plug into. This action encouraged anything within our non-violence guidelines, and led to some wonderful and creative scenes. I have received 7 replies to my original, pre-action posting, some encouraging, some opposite. I have replied to each in the appropriate manner. If anyone would like to correspond further on this subject, I welcome and encourage you. Better yet: "If you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own." -- Rex decvax!ucbvax!menlo70!sanders
