The flowering of women's physical education in the last decade has been a truly wonderful thing in this country. It is really important to the general cause of women's rights. Healthy, active women do not fit (and easily break) many of the stereotypes of the "weaker sex". Women (the largest majority in the country), please note: Your Republican president has struck an enormous blow (in the grove college case) at the gains of the last decade. Republicans CANNOT DO THIS TO YOU unless you choose to be hopelessly divided, politically. - Toby Robison allegra!eosp1!robison decvax!ittvax!eosp1!robison princeton!eosp1!robison (NOTE! NOT McMillan; Robison.) Please keep this sort of article in a newsgroup (i.e. NOT net.women, which is usually somewhat more civilized than most, except for one recognizable and deliberately inflamitory male author, who is NOT T. Robinson) where it is proper to respond to the politically inflamitory material. Republicans (of which I am reluctantly one, since I can't stand the Democratic <let's lie and see who believes us> party at all) are NOT anti-women. A small group of PROMINANT Republicans are indeed twits, but the majority believe in INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM <and that means for everyone!!!> and INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY <this includes pro-choice in abortion as far as I'm concerned>. (This opposed to the Democratic line of bleeding the productive folks dry so that they can't produce either. See the economy of the last 30 years for an example.) If you must post misdirected articles, PLEASE, PLEASE get your facts straight. The Supreme Court, to date, has not been significantly influenced by the Reagan Administration, at least as far as appointees are concerned. <This is quite a reasonable worry for the future, though, although I do think even RR would avoid the extreme conservatives while giving them lip-service, just like he's been doing...> It is the Supreme Court that generated this pearl of wisdom regarding athletic programs, Grove City College, etc, from an incredibly stupid suit started during the ?CARTER? administration for no clear reason. (?Ford?) I don't approve of the decision at all, but I can hardly blame anyone but the Supreme Court, Burger in particular, (There is an interesting book out about the Supreme Court, I don't remember the title, but I'll look if people care, that has some interesting discussion on Warren Burger.) and the people who wrote the briefs for both sides, for this one. Frankly, I hope this one winds up back in court in more well formed case, one that requires a direct evaluation of the role of sexual discrimination. Don't blame it on the Republicans, though, if the law was written poorly in the first place. Remember who controlled the Congress. -- TEDDY BEARS ARE NICER THAN PEOPLE-- HUG YOUR OWN TODAY !
