Am I wrong?

Out of curiousity, does anyone feel that having Christmas as a
national holiday violates separation of church & state? What about
Thanksgiving, with its (lesser) Christian overtones?

I've always had special feelings for 25 December. On that day in 1642
a much more appetizing man than JC was born - Isaac Newton.

Christmas a Christian feast? No. At least not on the date that's now
set for it.

Originally Christmas was celebrated on Jan 2; after the violent prosecutions
of Christians under the Roman emperors another emperor (sorry, can't remember
his name now) was far more tolerant towards them (for his own benefit by the
way). Under this emperor the Sun God, under the name "Sol Invictus" was
worshipped. The big "Feast of Sol Invictus" was on Dec 25. Now this emperor
allowed the Christian to celebrate their "Christmas", as long as they would
do that on the Sol Invictus feast!

So basically, given the date, "Christmas" is a pagan feast.

I, for one, do feel that Christmas is a gross infringement on
my rights as a non-Christian citizen. The other restriction on my life-
style that really bothers me, however, is the Judeo-Christian inspired and
state-backed law against Sunday shopping. While I believe that the independant
retailers may need the protection of having a one-day enforced holiday on all(
so that they are not forced to work themselves into the ground when others hire
help) I would prefer that this be the reason, and not a religious one binding onall.

At least Atheists don't have to worry about Hell,
