Re: Dominoes___________________________________________________________________

There seem to be a few of you out there who think that Cambodia going
communist because we let Viet Nam go is proof of the domino theory. Recently
someone's suggested that Nicaragua went communist because Cuba did. I'm afraid
it's a bit more complicated than that.
Suppose, just suppose, that our foreign policy was based on the rights
of the *people* of these developing nations, rather than on relations with
scoundrels like Somoza because it happens to be what's best for United Brands/
United Fruits' profits. Perhaps that would knock a few dominoes over?
Current foreign policy (support - with force, if necessary - dictators
who do business with us at the citizens' expense) seems to be pushing the dom-
inoes the wrong way. How can we expect these people to embrace the Amurrican
way if the Amurricans are trying to keep these dictators in power?
Seems to me that that's what's got the dominoes flopping over.
