I would like to hear some comments on Jesse Jackson's latest "rescue' mission. I can fully understand his bringing back the political prisoners (though Castro may just be calling his local Cuban murderers by that name), but I cannot understand nor condone his bringing back 20 some odd dope dealers and pot-heads. If anything, the Castro regime has performed well in the area of justice as it concerns 'real' criminals. I feel that Jackson has been duped by Castro. Castro gets to unload the responsibility of the prisoners on us. We get to wonder just how bad these people really are. Are these people really hard-core dope dealers or are some of them stupid kids who were caught sucking on left-handed cigarettes in the park? Are the so-called political prisoners really political, or are they just some more of Castro's hard-core criminals dredged out of his prisons just like he did at Murial? I think Jesse would be better off at trying his hand at getting the Sakharovs out of the USSR. Knowing how the Russian leaders like to embarrasse the US government whenever they get the chance, Jesse could probably pull it off. THAT would be a coup. Not just dragging a bunch of known criminals out of some Cuban prison. The local Cuban community is very upset with Jackson over this one. Does anyone else have any comment? T. C. Wheeler

Dopers must be at least as big a voting bloc as the better- known minorities; maybe Jackson's hoping to add them to his Rainbow Coalition? :-) (-:
