I find the amount of heat generated by the concept of Gay teachers to be a bit strange. There have always been Gay teachers; only they have never had their full civil rights till now. What is wrong with granting people their full civil rights? Besides, parents do not have the right to infringe upon academic freedom. If a parent truly loved his/her child, they would support the child's learning the truth about the world. Parents have no right to ban Darwin from the classroom, and they have no right to teach their children that bigotry is an acceptable way of life. Try expressing the anti-Gay teacher sentiments using any other minority group, and you'd see how disgusting those sentiments are. I suggest to the people who have expressed them that they examine their own motives, and also learn a bit about the pluralistic nature of our society and the aims of education. Education is not meant to produce little robets that parents can boss around, but fully responsible democratic citizens. If parents don't like it, that's their problem.
