[net.politics] Comments on Olympic Opening Ceremonies

hope@gatech.UUCP (Theodore Hope) (08/03/84)

I disapproved of Peter Jennings giving politically-oriented comments about
certain countries during the opening ceremonies. I think I he should have
concentrated on the athletes' abilities instead of the political and economic
stability of their countries.

Any comments?

I agree that Jennings' comments regarding the political status of each
nation was inappropriate; it sounded too much like an attempt to
classify the white hats and the black hats. Then again, having the
atheletes enter as national squads is probably inappropriate, too, and
encourages that sort of thing.
