[net.politics] Are Stealth Bombers "Really" Invisible to Radar?

amra@ihuxj.UUCP (Steven L. Aldrich) (09/07/84)

Hello, the other night while watching "Late Night America" on local
PBS station, Chan. 11 Chicago, the guest made an interesting statement.
She claimed that the "Stealth Bomber" (B-1?) was only "invisible" to
Short Wave (SW) Radar and that Long Wave (LW) Radar would be more than
capable of detecting these "so called" wonder weapons that the President
intends to use as replacements for the B-52's currently being utilized.

She said that there was no way a plane could be "shielded" from detection
from LW radar installations. The program aired on 09-04 or 09-05, maybe
some of you saw the show. At any rate, her sources were/are people who
are involved at "higher/upper levels" of the Pentagon/Industry complex.
She seemed to have acurate data/facts to back up her claims.

At any rate, if this is true it will be a major fiasco for U.S. forces
in a war situation. This is because of the fact that these "Invisible"
planes can be easily/readily detected by "old fashion" LW radar equipt-
-ment. Guess who still uses Both LW & SW radar? (Here's a hint; IT ISN'T
   THE US!)

If the above is in error, please let me know. I'm no expert on the
subject. I'm only reporting what I heard, and asking if it's true/
accurate data. If so it would seem to be a good idea to re-evaluate
the further development/deployment/procurement of this "Ultra-Modern"
  technology .

I invite other to comment on the above. Either Post to this group
(net.politics) or send EMAIL to ihnp4!ihuxj!amra.

Thank you for your time, see you in the Air-Waves.
