[net.politics] The Bear

cjohnson@zehntel.UUCP (Chris Johnson) (10/26/84)

I don't own a tv so when I las night when I visited a friend I got
a chance to see my first political ad of this campaign. It was for
beloved RR and used a bear as a metaphor for the USSR saying that we
had to be as strong as "the bear" to be able to defend ourselves against
him (it?) if necessary.

I decided that the metaphor actually made sense, but that it wasn't
carried far enough. No matter how strong a person is, a bear will cause
significant damage in a fight. Mankind hasn't survived in a world
filled with bears by being "stronger", but by being more intelligent.

Politically is it "intelligent" to hate (i.e. fear and/or wish to destroy)
someone just because s/he is a {communist, liberal, conservative, facist,
capitalist, homosexual, hetrosexual, atheist, religous} person???
Is it "stupid" to think that money spent on a bomber would be better used
for education or food?

P.S. I would rather be fuzzy-headed than empty-headed.

Not if you have an M-16! (The guy was obviously carrying some kind of
weapon behind his back which caused the bear to reconsider. So no one
was hurt because there was no fight!)

This may not even represent my opinion, much less AMD's.

There is a boor in the White House. Some people can't see the boor.
Others see him and think that he will end the world. Since we can't
be sure the boor won't end the world, doesn't it make sense to get
rid of the boor? If there is a boor?
