Ron Rizzo made a point: Reagan can die in office. It is a concern, however, just to balance things one must consider the possibility that Mondale dies and Jesse Jackson takes over. After all it is no more absurd then suggesting that Republicans can afford to stray too far from center. Bit about polls is not convincing. Conclusuion (...send him back to Hollywood) is not supported by the content of the article, and reflects some unclear preconceptions. I suppose Rizzo puts gay rights on top of list. Fine. So why not vote for Jesse Jackson who supports those rights most vocally? Main reason would be that 25% defence cut would be enormously pleasing to USSR and would ultimately lead to the situation where no one in this country has ANY rights. Totalitarian states just love having scapegoats - and gays do just fine. The best thing one can do for minority (and majority) rights is to ensure that US has steadily anti-totalitarian (read anti-communist) position. Somehow I think that Reagan is more likely to ensure that. Can' speak for everybody, but I think it is absolutely the main thing. Mike Cherepov

Mike Cherepov =============== That's what most of the "liberals" have been saying, except for the non-sequitur at the end. Reagan is doing the best any recent President has done to ensure that the Communists do take over Central America, simply because he is NOT anti-totalitarian. Since being pro-totalitarian does equate in the long run to being pro-communist, Reagan must look pretty good to Moscow. -- Martin Taylor {allegra,linus,ihnp4,floyd,ubc-vision}!utzoo!dciem!mmt {uw-beaver,qucis,watmath}!utcsrgv!dciem!mmt
