[net.politics] Abortion doesn't belong on net.polit

Then give me the opportunity to differ with you. I will concede in advance
that abortion is a very important political issue and is in many citizens'
minds.

Will you also make a concession? Will you agree that many readers wish to
deal with other matters in net.politics? I'm only one small voice, but I
don't care to read anything about abortion. The argument's been waged
for years, my mind is "made up," and I don't wish to spend time dwelling
on a de jure matter about which I don't really care.

It's for these typical reasons that a separate newsgroup, called net.abortion,
was formed. It wasn't formed to talk about abortion experiences (i.e. helpline
style) or about how to perform an abortion. Instead, it was formed to remove
discussions of abortions to one central repository for further comment.

Until the newsgroup was formed, news articles about the political implications
of abortion were spread throughout the growing population of newsgroups, thus
making rebuttal and comment difficult. In addition, some of us were "turned
off" by the topic and failed to read further news from that newsgroup.

One of the unfortunate disadvantages [of having a separate group] is that
there's a tendency to become irritated if one of the collateral points of
a news article mentions or deals specifically with abortion, many will
write "nastygrams" to the author asking him to "take it to net.abortion."
I don't believe this is proper, but the article to which I believe we are
referring deals primarily with abortion issues.

My views are unchanged in this matter.

Well, mine are. How's that for a first on the net? I've abandoned
net.abortion in the realization that nobody over their wants to discuss,
they only want to rant. I'll keep the subject off these air-waves,
unless there is legislation pending or something like that. See people?
There can be agreement when people decide to agree.
