Shows what you know. Jews and Blacks giving Reagan his victory?
Hardly. Jews rejected him 2 to 1, Blacks 10 to 1.
As for our 2-party system, it has always been a sham (what
choice?), but Reagan's re-election didn't do it any damage. The
Dems did rather well in the Congressional races, and he has to
be mindful (if the Senile One has any mind left) that of the 33
senators up in '86, 22 (count 'em) are Republicans.

But let's say there is some fundamental difference between Reps and
Dems. Then why, Tom, would you like to see the Dems change their
tune? If they do as you suggest and clean up their act, what will
be left to distinguish them from the Rep's?

The Dems have not done well in these vacuous, jingoistic 80's because
even though few ideas are necessary--it's all in the media hype--
they have no ideas. Then again, they never had any, at least none
of their own. They'd always turn to the Left, grab what sounded good,
clean up the rough edges, and package for general consumption. Well,
the joke's on them--there is no more Left. If you *really* want to
see a vital Dem. Party, you're going to have to wait. But not too
long. Wait until a generation of well-off kids finds out it's being
reared for cannon-fodder in Central America--the Left will rise again.

Now, as for being pleased with the outcome of the election, the return
to "traditional values"--what traditions? State's Rights, raping the
environment, union busting, prayer in the classroom and gov't in the
bedroom? Great traditions, those. It seems to me that the greatest
"traditional" value in our pluralist, polyglot society would be
tolerance. But the New Right's got damn little of that. Just look
at the election results--Studds's constituency forgave him, but not so
Dan Crane's.

So you want to shove your perverted morality down my throat? OK, you
got your mandate for something-or-other, I gleefully look forward to
watching you try, watching the hordes of yuppies who voted for your guy
over issues of leadership and the economy drop him and his ilk like
a hot potato, and just in time for the elections of '86 (not that the
Dems will come up with anything). Yes, *DO* try. (Can't resist the
quote:) "Go ahead, make my day."
