Really?  The World Wars were and are infamous for their breadth and
sheer numbers of casualties, largely due to the fact that they were
fought using the most advanced technologies available at the time.
But I don't think the the two World Wars to date have a corner on
brutality and savagery.  Wars make savages out of all who fight,
whether the fight is with rocks or bombs and missiles or gases and
"bugs".
