Let's remember the whole article: 41 people > in West Germany, 11 in Great Britain, etc. So you are telling us that > Americans are 26165% more murderous than Germans. Thats correct. Some people try to argue that the U.S has more people. Thats foolish. They U.S. does have more people than Germany but not the difference is trivial. Other people will try to argue that the statistics are for handguns only. Be serious. When was the last time you heard of a person being killed by something else? > > Oh, right, the burglar. For now I will just have to assume you are an idiot. Instead of trying to get guns banned why dont you just make burglery illegal, then he wouldnt be there in the first place. Or, if you dont want to take away his livlihood, just make murder illegal and you wouldnt have to worry about anyone being killed. I bet you never drive faster then 55 on highways and come to a complete stop at stop signs too... While Im at it... To whoever wrote this: > Do the pro-gun people have any suggestion other than arming everyone to the > teeth and shooting it out in the subways and streets of America? No, we just want to arm the pro-gun people and shoot it out in your living room.

While I generally agree with Jeff on the handgun *control* issue, his belief that a burglar would not have a handgun with stricter controls is a bit naive. This certainly does not warrant the label of "idiot". Especially when this label comes from someone with the spelling and punctuation skills of Mike Schloss (note above paragraph). Maybe if he had taken the time to get an education rather than playing with his guns..... Terry Bermes

Last I looked this was posted to net.rec and net.politics, not net.spelling_and_punctuation. If you have something useful to add that is relevant to the conversation then by all means, please comment. If not, then dont. Switching topics to prove your point doesnt really hack it. Back to the issue at hand. The belief that gun control will keep guns out of the hands of burglers and others who knowingly violate the law is more then naieve. Do drug control laws keep drugs off the streets ? Does outlawing something already used for illegal purposes ever have an effect? If you can think of any cases where this has ever worked I would be interested in hearing about them. To Mr Bermes: Sorry I dont have the time to pipe everything I write through spell. Perhaps if you would pipe everything you read through a spelling checker/corrector first it would save you much aggrevation. P.S I dont own a gun and never have. I am also a college grad.

Switching topics to prove your point doesnt >really hack it. Do you mean like calling someone with a different opinion an idiot as you did? You've missed the point of my posting. Jeff Shallit posted an article that you didn't agree with. Rather than simply debating the point in question you found it necessary to call Jeff an idiot. One of the biggest problems on the Net seems to be an intolerance of other's opinions. The purpose of the Net is to provide a forum for these opinions. The reason for my tirade against your paragraph was to point out that Jeff was not the only one with flaws. We all have them. My apologies to the other Netters for posting this. I shall refrain from making any further personal postings. Terry Bermes
