For Instance: The belief that national security is somehow more important than freedom. What are we trying to secure, if not our freedom? CENSORSHIP in the name of national security weakens democracy, it does NOT strengthen it! Newly enacted laws which make the CIA even LESS answerable to the PEOPLE will do us much more harm than good in the long run. Restrictions on the flow of scientific information between our allies, as per recent DoD directive, will help us loose our edge by the same over protective centralization of authority (or permission to communicate) that is currently holding the Russians back. If I were in charge I'd feed the ultra-paranoid Casper Gainsburger to the dogs. COMPLETE DISREGARD for the enforcement of ENVIRONMENTAL laws, What is America after all? LAND, AIR, and WATER that's what! James Watt once said "We don't need to protect the environment, the second coming is at hand". And since the administration kept telling us that Watt was just relaying Ronnie's views, it is clear to me that the Raygun Administration is perfectly willing to let this land be destroyed, as long as someone can make a profit before the rapture. Talk about seperation of church and state! Flakey politicians, who make public policy based on their own private religious views, and irresponsible toxic chemical companies will destroy this land long before "the liberal left". State supported TERRORISM in Central America (Contras). Terrorists that kill innocent civilians are terrorists that kill innocent civilians, no matter which state supports them! If we are really better than the Communists, then we should be able to prove it without using the EXACT same methods to achieve our goals, no matter how "good" WE know they are. The assumption that MX WAR-MAKER missles and B1 bombers are more important to national security than education is. How do you think we got to be so far ahead of the Russians technologically? By spending half of our budget on defense? and restricting LOANS to students so we can GIVE GRANTS to ROTC clones?? NO!! By having some of the best educational institutions in the world, and making them available to everyone!! And you're use of the word 'repentance' stinks of those groups (widely supported by 'the new right') that would have us all be forced to practice some kind of Majority Religion. There's also the flavor (quite disgusting) of the idea that comprimise is not to be tolerated (repentance is an all or nothing proposition). That's the kind of fanatic thinking that has the middle east in so much trouble now. (Those who BELIEVE that anything is justified for something one BELEIVES in) Oh I forgot, you (conservatives) DO APPROVE of fire-bombing medical clinics and other TERRORIST activities in support of what you BELIEVE is "right". Beware of ALL who teach intolerance. ( ie. Jerry Falwell ) There are tendencies on the FAR RIGHT that are just as DANGEROUS as anything on the FAR LEFT - FACISTs and NAZIs for instance. If you'll recall, in the last World War, Communists and Democracies were ALLIED TOGETHER to fight this even more dangerous enemy. That's why ALL TRUE Americans are MODERATES, niether FAR LEFT or FAR RIGHT. Moderates understand that only through negotiation and comprimise can ANY group of people get along peacefully with each other.
