From the Wall Street Journal (3/21/85):

TAX PAYMENTS BY INCOME GROUPS (Adjusted Gross Income)
[% of Total Taxes Paid]

Income Class	1981	1982	1983
$0-$15K 9.1 8.4 7.4
$15K-$30K	27.6	26.0	23.6
$30K-$50K	30.3	30.2	29.8
$50K-$100K	17.9	18.1	19.4
>$100K 15.0	17.3	19.6
>$1M 1.7 2.4 3.6

(source: IRS figures--I notice they don't add up to 100% though;
what do you expect from the IRS?))

In addition, the "tax Gini coefficient"
[a value of 1 indictes perfect progressivity--one rich
person pays all the tax--and a value of 0 has
everyone paying the same tax, regardless of income]
rose from .6488 to .6560 between 1981 and 1983.

"Watch me pull a Gini out of my lamp."
"Again? That trick never works."
"Nothing up my sleeve. Presto!"
"RRowwwwwwwrrrr!"
"No doubt about it. I've gotta get a new lamp."
