[net.politics] Defending the US-a Questionaire-Perkins biases the audience

jj@alice.UUCP (04/10/85)

I'm not going to bother to reply to Charlie Perkins on a point
by point basis because there's no point in replying to
something that is utterly specious. (i.e. reply will
only encourage more sophistry.)

It's unfortunate that Mr. Perkins doesn't seem to understand
the methodology of the particular questionaire, and that he's
unable to follow instructions and take things at face value.
His comments on being called "conservative, liberal, etc" are
utter nonsense in view of the instructions, and his comments
as to what constitutes "taking up arms" even worse. (For those
of you who go back and look, no I didn't specify. ON PURPOSE!)

If this questionaire starts a debate (Over the questionaire,
rather than the results, whatever they turn out to be) I shall
simply unsubscribe and toss the whole thing. Now that Mr. Perkins
has deliberately sabotoged the questionaire, I will have to keep two
sets of data, one with an unprejudiced set or replies, and one that
has been prejudicially sabotaged by Mr. Perkins. Enough said.

One of the prime considerations of taking a poll is that of
fairness and lack of prejudice. Mr. Perkins COULD have waited until
next week and THEN complained. He did not, and as a result
has cast suspicion on all data gathered from the time of his posting onward.
