[net.politics] The Bishop of Durham Speaks Out

nyssa@abnji.UUCP (nyssa of traken) (04/17/85)

Sunday night on BBC Radio 4 the Bishop of Durham said about Thatcherism
(This can also be applied to Reaganomics):

To return to the ethics of the 19th century entrepreneurial
induvidualism is either nonsense or else a firm declaration
that induvidual selfishness and organised greed are the
only effective motivations for human behaviour.

Any comments?

In the sight of the Great Video, and of Varos, who gave his name to
our planet, we pray that you accept the lives of these humble deviants,
in recompense for their sins. We also pray that you look benignly upon
us, and down upon your people as servants.

I realy wouldn't expect anything less idiotic out of the mouth of
a religious leader.

This is realy interesting: "19th century entrepenurial INDIVIDUALISM"
supports "ORGANIZED greed."

What in the world is "organized greed" anyway?

Unfortunately, most of the world continues to concur with the bishop
that selfishness is evil.
