I agree with Jeff about the necessity of taking personal responsibility for one's actions (and non-actions). This remark could also cause discussion in net.religion, but that is another issue. I do not agree with him about the Gun Control Lobby(ies?). It is not against the owning of firearms, but rather against the uncontrolled use of firearms. The proposed legislation of which I am aware, is specifically directed towards licensing gun-owners so that they are properly trained, and so that guns may be accounted for. I have mixed emotions about the second half of this intent, for various (somewhat paranoid) reasons. I do not believe that government is entirely benevolent, even in the U.S., and I am not sure that I would want any/every body in the government to be aware of my owning a gun if I had one. It may again be necessary for the people of the U.S. to rise in revolt against an unjust government. I would point out (one more time) that guns don't do the damage, people do. I would also reiterate that many deaths from gunshot wounds occur because some gunowner was careless (irresponsible?) or simply not compos mentis (drunk with rage, liquor, drugs, or whatnot??). Surely there must be a better way. As always, Joanne Munson P.S. for Jeff, I suggest that you read some of the biographies containing the letters of our founding fathers, paying close attention to what they meant when they referred to "God."
